Protein-rich, ready-to-eat and regional
Three trends
one product
Three major trends currently dominate the food industry.
- CONVENIENCE: People want ready-to-eat products
- REGIONALITY: People want Austrian products
- PROTEIN-RICH DIET: People want protein-rich foods
Estyria pulses cater to three different trends
Estyria packs all three trends into a glass (or tin!) – with ready-to-eat MUTTER NATUR organic pulses and ready-to-enjoy Steirerkraft scarlet runner beans.
CONVENIENCE
Both lines are quick and easy to use. The cooked beans, chickpeas and other pulses are highly versatile and serve as excellent store cupboard supplies.
REGIONAL
All ingredients for our products are sourced from Austrian contract farmers – whereby all MUTTER NATUR products come from organic farms – and the entire production, from harvesting through to product management, marketing and sales, is handled in Austria.
PROTEIN-RICH
The demand for protein-rich products is rising fast for a variety of reasons. While athletes have always prioritised protein-rich foods, concentrated protein is also now appearing on the daily menus of nutrition-conscious consumers – often for ethical and ecological reasons. Pulses contain natural protein, and this plays an important role in supplementing or replacing animal protein.
Beans, lentil, chickpeas and other pulses are also high in fibre and low in carbohydrates.
The current taste for ready-to-eat pulses is as strong as ever, and demand for MUTTER NATUR products and the Steirerkraft range is increasing steadily.

Traditional Styrian
stamp press process
While modernity has brought progress in many areas, the traditional Styrian stamp press process is still the best way of making pumpkin seed oil. The main difference between this and other pressing methods is that we work with open roasting pans. At our plant, people check when the pumpkin seeds are perfectly roasted and so will yield the very best oil. This enables our experienced oil millers to produce the pumpkin seed oil that has won more prizes than any other – and which as a result of this type of pressing retains all the natural constituents. The untreated oil is not filtered; the particles that make it cloudy settle naturally when the oil is left to rest.
