Styrian State Awards 2023

16 gold medals for Estyria pumpkin seed oils

Making Styrian pumpkin seed oil PGI requires lots of experience and a large helping of finesse. The process is exclusively manual, and requires great diligence. To this day, we manufacture our pumpkin seed oil PGI in traditional Styrian stamp presses to achieve the amazing quality and taste our customers have come to expect. We also use natural sedimentation processes and deliberately refrain from filtration.

So we were especially delighted to be distinguished – once again! – as an award-winning Styrian pumpkin seed oil producer. This award pays tribute to our commitment and passion for manufacturing high-quality food products.

All sixteen of the Styrian PGI pumpkin seed oils we submitted for the 2023 State Awards were awarded prizes – and are authorised to bear the gold badge. These include our Steirerkraft pumpkin seed oil, Austria Pur and all the retail brands we produce.

We’re very proud that our Steirerkraft brand took a fantastic third place at the Gault Millau 2024 tastings.

Traditional Styrian
stamp press process

While modernity has brought progress in many areas, the traditional Styrian stamp press process is still the best way of making pumpkin seed oil. The main difference between this and other pressing methods is that we work with open roasting pans. At our plant, people check when the pumpkin seeds are perfectly roasted and so will yield the very best oil. This enables our experienced oil millers to produce the pumpkin seed oil that has won more prizes than any other – and which as a result of this type of pressing retains all the natural constituents. The untreated oil is not filtered; the particles that make it cloudy settle naturally when the oil is left to rest.
