Estyria goes green

Sustainability for life

How do we interpret sustainability? Sustainability for all – from the field to the finished product. That means being fair to nature, to farmers, to suppliers and to everyone involved in producing the products. We are working with our staff, suppliers and customers on a sustainable climate protection strategy.

Our “bee happy” wild bee project is under way in partnership with the Austrian League for Nature Conservation Naturschutzbund Österreich, and with our contract farmers we have launched an agricultural flower strip scheme that has already resulted in 19 ha being set aside for flowering plants.

We should stress that our company is working hard with our suppliers to reduce plastic use and introduce recyclable packaging. We attach great importance to minimising the distance over which raw materials and inputs are transported.

We are also working on progressive implementation of an energy management system compliant with ISO 50001.

Furthermore, we strive to use sustainably produced electricity: we have a charging station for electric cars and bicycles and some of the production buildings are equipped with photovoltaic systems.

Estyria cares about nature and about people. The company emphasises sustainable quality so that our customers also benefit.

Traditional Styrian
stamp press process

While modernity has brought progress in many areas, the traditional Styrian stamp press process is still the best way of making pumpkin seed oil. The main difference between this and other pressing methods is that we work with open roasting pans. At our plant, people check when the pumpkin seeds are perfectly roasted and so will yield the very best oil. This enables our experienced oil millers to produce the pumpkin seed oil that has won more prizes than any other – and which as a result of this type of pressing retains all the natural constituents. The untreated oil is not filtered; the particles that make it cloudy settle naturally when the oil is left to rest.
