Expectations apple harvest

The capricious weather during the apple growing period is resulting in a varying picture of this year’s likely harvest quantities in different parts of Europe. Parts of Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary experienced late frosts which may reduce yields of some varieties by 20-50%. Despite these losses we are reckoning on an average harvest.

Austrian apple growers largely escaped late frosts this spring. However, it remains to be seen how the growing season will unfold, especially as summer brings an increased risk of hail. Some of the main growing regions have already been affected by severe storms.

After some difficult years in the organic apple sector, the quantity situation is currently easier. South Tyrol – our main organic growing region – is expecting a harvest of normal size. In response to the special wishes of our customers, we shall this season start focusing more strongly on organic baby food (in accordance with the Dietetic Foods Regulation) and shall be offering you a wide range of dried apple products that meet this standard.

To sum up, we expect the harvest to provide sufficient raw materials for organic and conventional apple products. Prices will be fixed at the end of the summer.

Traditional Styrian
stamp press process

While modernity has brought progress in many areas, the traditional Styrian stamp press process is still the best way of making pumpkin seed oil. The main difference between this and other pressing methods is that we work with open roasting pans. At our plant, people check when the pumpkin seeds are perfectly roasted and so will yield the very best oil. This enables our experienced oil millers to produce the pumpkin seed oil that has won more prizes than any other – and which as a result of this type of pressing retains all the natural constituents. The untreated oil is not filtered; the particles that make it cloudy settle naturally when the oil is left to rest.
