A balancing act between record turnover and unprofitability

How can we overcome the current cost dilemma?

There is currently an extremely large (and blatantly obvious!) discrepancy between the hugely increased prices manufacturers have to pay (e.g. for raw materials, energy, staff, logistics, packaging) and the prices consumers are paying on the shop floor. Every day, we read reports about cost inflation – and it’s definitely not fake news. Austria needs healthy businesses and enterprises in order to safeguard the quality, availability and safety of its food and develop new, meaningful and exciting innovations. In a normal year, most of us can compensate at least partially for increased costs by growing our productivity. But that’s not possible right now.

The pandemic has triggered huge upheaval in global trade. This in turn has completely upset the fine balance between supply and demand in agricultural and industrial production, creating an alarming economic gap. Any company that can’t close this gap is doomed to go under. We’d like to thank all our long-standing partners who have accepted our price increases for next year, which we’ve announced well in advance. That’s what equal partnerships are all about.

In order to ensure we all emerge stronger from this crisis, we intend to pursue our proactive business strategy. Our new stamp press technology 4.0 sets new standards for high-quality pumpkin seed oil. As of 01.01.2022, Estyria will be carbon neutral (CCF Scope 3 certification) and our top brands Steirerkraft and MUTTER NATUR will both be certified PCF, Scope 3 – another important detail that will delight your customers. We’ll also be focussing on new product innovations and creative methods of communication in 2022. That’s how we respond to cost pressure. We create palpable value to help customers accept price increases. All the above measures will bring us more growth in 2022. Many thanks for your support!

Traditional Styrian
stamp press process

While modernity has brought progress in many areas, the traditional Styrian stamp press process is still the best way of making pumpkin seed oil. The main difference between this and other pressing methods is that we work with open roasting pans. At our plant, people check when the pumpkin seeds are perfectly roasted and so will yield the very best oil. This enables our experienced oil millers to produce the pumpkin seed oil that has won more prizes than any other – and which as a result of this type of pressing retains all the natural constituents. The untreated oil is not filtered; the particles that make it cloudy settle naturally when the oil is left to rest.
